Can we have some community involvement?
Were all watching GW getting less and less updates and such, and more and more people posting their updates on what they want to see happen in the game. So why not let some of this actually happen?
The live team should just make simple competitions in order to allow people to throw in their ideas. An example would be a competition to redesign monsters. A person would select an area in the game, then remake all the monster bars in that area and submit it. Simple and easy.
Yes, it would take a bit of work to sift through all the entries, but I think it would take less time than it would for the live team to re-design all the monster skills themselves. Plus they now have the Test Krewe to help them out with this, which would cut down the time considerably.
There could be other ways to involve the community, but I feel this is an easy and exciting way to do so.

Anet is spending their time on GW2, to redesign an area takes ages and does not take over night. Just don't get your hopes too high.

Allowing the community (Especially Guru) to dictate what should be done with the game is a BAD idea, very bad idea. That's right, I said the PLAYERS who PAID for the game and played it for YEARS should NOT have a say in what is modified in the game.
Should I explain or no? I honestly don't think I have to.

Yes, I know 60% of the players are morons. But that still leaves a large percent who know what is happening and how to solve a few problems. I better clarify my OP, I didn't mean actually redesigning the areas, all I meant was redesigning the skills and so the area feels different.
It's not like as soon as you post your idea it goes through straight away, there is a selection process. It's pretty much just allowing Anet to pick good ideas instead of having to think of them themselves. People like this:

Yes, I'm very aware that any suggestion that is posted has a very slim possibility of even being considered. We might as well delete Sardelac if we are going with that thought. I am not expecting a monster skill bar redesign to take overnight. It takes a lot of time and thought, something which the live krewe does not have, but many people would be willing to help out on.

I'll agree actually. I'd hope ArenaNet would be smart in picking the right ones. Changing the skills used in particular areas would actually bring some life/challenge back to the game, but I think there is probably more than that, which needs to be done with this to help make an area better. Improving MonsterAI is a must, IMO.
I by no means think "PvE is Lulz easy" like most people, I think it's fine the way it is... but I will agree for the most part that changing the skills used in areas wouldn't hurt too much.

I for one strongly believe that once GW2 is out, the blood clot keeping blood from GW will finally be freed and you'll see the game get it's color back.
Most of us already mentioned EQ1 I'm sure, in most discussions about the state of the game. EQ1 has support up to this very day, even with it's sequel approaching 6 years.
As long as good, faithful old schoolers are still around.. GW is far from being ignored, it's just going to take some time.

We already have this.
The competition is the Game suggestions section of the Feedback portal on the official wiki, and discussions on forums. The winner is whose thoughts are made the loudest.

the winner is whose thoughts are similar to ANet thoughts and TK needs.
i'd rather either have an open contest or sardelac deleted than an illusionary way to be heard.

Contests are only created and allowed on ANet's terms, so I'm not sure just how much freedom you think contests are going to allow for in the future. ANet isn't about to give up the job of game development to a general public lotto.

I think the idea is awful. There is no need to change the things you're looking at. Your average Joe doesn't need to be messing with game mechanics. Far as community involement, you already have that. The only problem is when ideas are presented they need to be done so they don't resemble a wrestling match between two 12 year olds or highschoolers out for recess.
One of the biggest updates we ever got, Z quests, the pet mengarie, Nicholas, ability to change one's characters name or looks were at one point in time discussed in great length by the GW community. They do pay attention to what players want, even if it sometimes seems they don't. You can't get everything you want either.

Legally, ArenaNet cannot accept suggestions for implementation from outside sources (users, forums, etc). As Regina has explained, such a contest is not possible from a legal standpoint. It's posted somewhere on her wiki, but I'd rather crawl across a field of broken glass into a pool of lemonade then go searching through the mess that is the official wiki.
Yes, I know what this means for this forum and the ones like it. But the precedent stands.

The things I'm looking at, AKA monster skills? You really think there is no need to change the monsters bars at all? How long have you been playing for?
I have no idea why you bought up the Zquest update, I'm not saying their updates are shitty I'm saying they don't have enough time to think of the specifics behind their ideas, and that's where the community could help. I'd really appreciate it if you bothered to read the post before commenting.

So um, technically every suggestion we make we are hurting Anet? Since they can't use other peoples ideas. How come they were able to do the Henchman skillbar contest then?
This is retarded beyond belief.

And that's the problem. Who the "right ones" are would be very dependent of the politics of the person defining "right".

No, you're not hurting them. Where would you get that idea? They listen to suggestions to see what the community would like, but legally, they can't really accept suggestions.
I don't know exactly how the process works, but apparently it makes sense to them.
